Membership
Membership is open to those who maintain their principal residence in the North End/Waterfront neighborhood as demonstrated by a Massachusetts drivers license or ID with a North End/Waterfront address. Annual dues for the Basic membership are $10 and membership periods run through the end of the calendar year, expiring on December 31. Residency must be demonstrated before you can receive a voting ballot* (see Voter Eligibility below).
NEWRA invites applicants to consider becoming a Park Support member for $25 ($10 Basic + donation) or a Sustaining member for $100 ($10 Basic + donation). Funds raised through tax-deductible membership contributions are used to help fund park improvements, events, beautification and educational efforts in the North End. NEWRA is a 501(c)(3) so your membership and donation is fully tax-deductible. Applicants may join NEWRA in two ways: 1- Via mail or in-person: Applications using this method should fill out the NEWRA membership form and bring it to a NEWRA meeting or mail it to: P.O. Box 130319 Boston, MA 02113. Only personal checks are accepted by mail, although cash, personal checks or money orders are accepted at meetings. No corporate or third party checks will be accepted. 2- Online: NEWRA now allows your yearly membership to be paid online using your personal credit card. Applications using this method should select your membership level /contribution amount just above the button below, and then click on the "Donate" button which will allow you to enter your information securely online. Voting at NEWRA Meetings
Voting on issues pertinent to the community is one of the things NEWRA is all about. As a fully democratic member-driven institution, we provide an important voice to residents who otherwise might have none in the ever-more-complex development environment of the North End.
Residency-qualified members must vote in person at meetings. A majority of members present at a meeting shall decide all issues put forward to the membership for voting, and these membership votes are binding on NEWRA position letters. So your vote really matters - every month. Voting Eligibility - Residency-qualified members are eligible to vote, except in the election of officers, if they have attended at least one prior meeting as a member* during the preceding six months. For the election of officers, members must have attended two meetings as a member in the prior six months. *Important: Please note that if you submit an application at a meeting, you will not be entered on the membership list until the following meeting. Therefore, you will not be entitled to vote until after you attend one meeting with your name on the membership list (and two meetings as a member for officer elections). If you join online, please do so at least 48 hours prior to our monthly meeting to have that meeting counted as your first. Non-members are welcome to attend NEWRA meetings and address the attendees at the discretion of the President. NEWRA meetings take place the second Thursday of each month at the Nazzaro Community Center on North Bennet Street. |
