Consider this a small win for North End residents, who already have one of the highest liquor license concentrations in the most densely populated neighborhood of the city. On October 6, the License Board gave none of the five all-alcohol license upgrades to North End establishments. Thank you Licensing Board for putting a halt, at least temporarily, to the 2-year-long rise in all-alcohol licenses and overall liquor licenses here in the North End.
Board members commented on our liquor license saturation, which NEWRA has been doing its best to make clear to City Hall over the past 2 months. We were pleased to hear comments like “the North End has been adequately served” by a “saturation of licenses.” The five neighborhood North End applicants were Antico Forno, Terramia, Crudo, Carmelina's and Strega. While North End residents and NEWRA members support our business community, we have also been legitimately concerned about the increase in liquor licenses and the correspondent uptick in quality-of-life issues. We hope restaurants and other liquor-serving establishments, as well as the Licensing Board, will continue to work with residents to attain an appropriate balance for the North End. Research on AirBnB NEWRA is working with other ADCO resident associations to spearhead important research into how AirBnBs affect the fabric of our community. Click on the button below to see the data that's been collected from other cities. If you would like to get involved in this joint AirBnB effort, please let us know at our next meeting or via email.
Save the North End Nursing Home Many North End residents and public servants are working to try to save the Spaulding Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center - the only Nursing home in all of Boston's downtown neighborhoods and, more importantly, the home to dozens and dozens of our most senior citizens. If you are interested in helping, a great first step would be to sign the online petition at the Save the North End Nursing Home website: www.savethenorthendnursinghome.org
"The North End Community recently discovered Partners HealthCare's plans to close the Spaulding Nursing Home and Rehab Center (formerly the North End Nursing Home) at 70 Fulton St. The decision to close this facility was made without any input from the community or concern for the impact on the long term residents who make their home there and receive daily visits from family members who are unable to travel easily to locations outside the neighborhood." from http://savenorthendnursinghome.org/ UPDATE - LEWIS WHARF and other large projects in North End Check out what's going on with the various larger development proposals for the North End.
